Bushies skipper Rodney Teese won the toss and elected to bat first in the pink stumps charity fundraiser match for the McGrath foundation with Glenn McGrath bowling the first over of the match. The game only being 10 overs with 8 balls per over big-hitting was needed. Local businessman David Hall on behalf of South Queensland Restoration donated cash to the fundraiser with every 6 hits. Kim Watson made a quickfire 23 before being bowled. Tom Jellie retired after the mandatory 15 balls faced but returned later in the innings and made 43 runs off 21 balls faced. After the 10 overs, the Bushies side made 143. Phil Bourke retired on 14, Rodney Teese retired on 13 and Shannon White was dismissed for 11, these were the other batsman that made double figures.
With Nathan Reardon opening the batting and after last year’s batting display, Rodney Teese bowled the first over and Steve Foulis coming on board with his business MoneyQuest Park Ridge kindly donated $100 for every six Reardon hits off Teese’s over. Reardon cleared the boundary 3 times in the 8 ball over. Reardon made a quickfire 45. Substitute fielder Owen Maguire took 3 cracking catches during the innings and after the 10 overs the team led by Division 9 Councillor Scott Bannan may have fallen short by 12 runs but the scores may have also been tied. All players enjoyed being part of the game on & off the field and some special memories will last forever. Not very often do you get to play a game of cricket under lights with former Australian players such as Glenn McGrath, Jimmy Maher, Michael Kasprowicz, Nathan Reardon, Cameron Boyce & Carl Rackerman. Also 1st Grade cricketers Andrew Gode & Leigh Drennan.
The chat in the dressing room was unbelievable before, during & after the game. We are extremely grateful to have such elite sporting icons take part in our community event.
